18-08-23 Daily Football Predictions: Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United

Betting Tips

On Friday night, Nottingham Forest will host Sheffield United at the City Ground in an effort to avenge their losses from the Premier League season’s opening weekend.

In their opening game of the new season, Steve Cooper’s team lost 2-1 against Arsenal. While the Blades were defeated 1-0 by Crystal Palace at Bramall Lane.

Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United

Nottingham Forest rejoined the Premier League last year after a 23-year absence. Even so, it appeared as though they would quickly return to the Championship, but a good finish to the season allowed them to secure survival. With 38 points from 38 games, they ultimately placed 16th, four points above the relegation zone. They have the same objective for this season, which is “only” to ensure survival.

When Forest lost to Arsenal 2-1 last Saturday, August 12, they gave up as much as 79% of the ball. The Gunners took the lead after Eddie Nketiah’s spectacular goal in the 26th minute, and Bukayo Saka quickly added additional cushion. Forest was able to barely hold on till the end despite being primarily restricted to chasing Arsenal players around the field. In fact, after Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal in the 82nd minute, they even gave themselves a chance to win the game. Last time around, Forest just avoided relegation by finishing four points ahead of 18th-placed Leicester City.

Sheffield United won the Premier League last season after finishing second in the Championship the previous two seasons. With 91 points from 46 games, the Blades finished second, ten points behind first-place Burnley. However, the widespread perception is that they are not prepared for this level of competition and are the front-runners for relegation this season (together with Luton Town).

In their opening encounter of the new Premier League season last Saturday, August 12, Sheffield lost to Crystal Palace. While Sheffield only managed one shot on goal, the Eagles had eight.

Sheffield had a terrible 61% pass success rate for the entire game and was sloppy with the ball. Future tests will be more difficult, and they will need to improve if they want to avoid finishing last at the end of the season.

Verdict

Last year, Steve Cooper’s team won all three of their home games, including triumphs over Arsenal and Brighton. Sheffield United enters the match after a dismal performance in their home opener against Crystal Palace.

Palace dominated possession and had 24 chances, eight of which were on target, while the South Yorkshire team only managed one shot on goal and eight total efforts. The score remained reasonable thanks to a great performance by Blades goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

Forest initially struggled at Arsenal but eventually found their footing, and that performance implies they should be able to defeat the Blades.

After scoring against Arsenal off the bench in the second half, Taiwo Awoniyi appears to be a strong candidate for any goal. The Nigerian has now scored in each of his last five Premier League outings after finishing the previous season with six goals in four games.
