When Finland and Wales square off in a highly anticipated EURO 2024 playoff match at Cardiff City Stadium, fireworks are sure to fly. Despite their impressive performances in the qualifiers, where they defeated a highly skilled Croatian squad at home, the Dragons ultimately concluded the competition in third place in the standings.

Markku Kanerva’s men finished third in Group H with six wins and four losses, only two of which came away from home.  The Eagle Owls beat Northern Ireland in Belfast and won in Astana, where Denmark failed to beat Kazakhstan, so a victory for the Finns would not be a total shock.

Since 2020, Wales and Finland have had three meetings. Wales prevailed in two of those three games, while the previous friendly match ended in a 0-0 draw in Helsinki. Robert Taylor, a midfield player who would have been a good bench option, and Marcus Forss, an injured player, will be absent for Kanerva due to their decision to remain with Inter Miami during the international break.
Joel Pohjanpalo will supply the firepower to guarantee Finland leaves its mark in Cardiff. He has been shutting them down for Venezia in Serie B this season. To use Ethan Ampadu in midfield, Page appears likely to split up the defensive duo of Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu of Leeds, which is something to consider going forward.

But with Dan James, David Brooks, and Harry Wilson all playing well and Brennan Johnson returning to form after three goals in his last seven Tottenham outings, Wales have enough talent to score as well. In a pinch, Kieffer Moore may also have an effect off the bench.

Wales should win the forthcoming match because they now appear too strong for Finland.
