Spanish LaLiga Season 2024/25

Week 28 Review

The international break is here and fans will be excited about what is to come thanks to how week 28 of the 2024/25 LaLiga EA Sports season ended.

Every team was in action this time around and there was no dull moment across all ten stadiums. Only two teams failed to score any goals but the defensive solidity of all the teams showed that the Spanish top flight is a league of immense quality.

Managers will be grateful for the break while also hoping that the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers do not add any more problems to their teams.

Let us now take a look at the best action in game week 28.

Comeback wins send LaLiga fans into frenzy ahead of international break

The powers that he blessed us with multiple comeback wins in game week 28 of the 2024/25 LaLiga EA Sports season.

It started with RCD Mallorca, who hosted relegation strugglers Espanyol in matchday 2 of week 28. After gifting the Catalan side and own goal, they would score two seconds half goals, with one coming in additional time of the second half to earn all three points with a 2 – 1 win.

Inspired by that victory and also by the prospect of going into the international break with a lead, Real Madrid would not take their hosts, Villarreal’s early goal sitting down. After the Yellow Submarines rallied to score a seventh minute goal, they would score two in reply by the 23rd minute and hold on to that lead to take all three points home from Valencia to Madrid.

Matchday 3 would see Real Betis do even better with regards to comebacks. Los Verdiblancos were down by two goals away at Leganes after the first half and it took them until the 64th minute to finally get a goal. That sparked a comeback and by the 82nd minute, they were three goals up and coasting towards three points.

Not long after Getafe, the toughest side in LaLiga, would attempt to stun Osasuna away from home and succeed. A te Budimir scored his 15th goal of the season to become the outright third highest goal scorer of the season and his side hoped it would be enough. Their hopes were dashed as the Madrid side rallies to score two seconds half goals and take home all three points.

And then came the big one — Atlético de Madrid vs Barcelona. The showcase match of the week.

Everyone watched keenly for what would happen and when Los Rojiblancos hit Barcelona for two in the first and second halves, everyone expected it to be game over thanks to Atléti’s defensive solidity. Barcelona did not take it lying down, however, as they locked in and scored FOUR (4) goals in the next 25 minutes of the match (including additional time).

It was a perfect end to a weekend that showed the fight that LaLiga teams had.

Barcelona’s win away from home was also the fourth comeback win away from home of the week, which made it even more special for fans of the Spanish top flight to witness.

Top Scorers

After a chaotic match against Atlético de Madrid, Robert Lewandowski made sure to keep Kylian Mbappé at arms length with his 22nd goal of the season. Prior to that match, Mbappé’s brace against Villarreal put him within one goal of the Pichichi race top spot (20 goals). It is going to go down to the wire between these two from the looks of things, as their nearest competitors are at least five goals away and scoring at a less frequent rate.
