While the title duel is left for two teams, there are interesting tussles in the race for a Champions League slot and the teams fighting relegation. We take a look at the Italian top flight after round 32, which ended on Monday night.

Venezia beat Monza in a relegation six pointer

Venezia simply needed a victory in this relegation battle between the bottom two and squeezed past Monza with Daniel Fila’s debut Serie A goal.

This was a battle between the bottom two, but while Alessandro Nesta’s Monza had looked doomed for a while, the Lagunari still had hope. The hosts were without a victory since December, but lost only one of their last six games.

The 1-0 win means that Venezia are just two points below safety, with Monza’s place in Serie A looking doomed as they have collected just 15 points the entire season.

McTominay brace reduces Inter’s lead to three points

Scott McTominay scored twice as Napoli beat Empoli 3-0 on Monday night to reduce Inter Milan’s lead to three points. Second-placed Napoli were feeling the pressure after Inter’s 3-1 home win against Cagliari on Saturday, but, with six rounds remaining, they trail the Milan side by three points with 68.

Napoli have a relatively easy run-in on paper with all of their last six opponents currently 10th or lower in the table. They next travel to the bottom club Monza on Saturday.

Roma European dreams on course after drawing Lazio

AS Roma’s European dreams are still alive after holding Lazio to a 1-1 draw. Matias Soule scored a stunning equaliser in the pulsating Rome derby to extend Roma’s unbeaten league run to 16 games. Boyhood Lazio fan Alessio Romagnoli broke the deadlock early in the second half, before Soule hit back to set up a thrilling final 20 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico.

Tempers flared on several occasions in the second half, reflecting the animosity felt between the sides. According to the Associated Press, 2,000 police officers were deployed around the perimeter of the stadium before kick-off, with tear gas used during clashes with Lazio ultras.

The draw keeps Lazio sixth in the table and two points above Roma, who are making a late charge for European qualification after a difficult start to the season.
